Ultrasound is a procedure that uses a transducer, an instrument that emits a high-frequency sound and captures the echoes which in turn produces real time images on the computer screen. It is most commonly utilized during pregnancy to monitor the baby’s development stages. Ultrasound is used as a key tool to diagnose a wide variety of conditions affecting the organs in the body without the use of ionizing radiation. During the test, patients will lie on the table and will experience little or no discomfort. Depending on the exam, the allotted time could range from 30 minutes to over an hour. The ultrasound procedure may require specific Exam Preparations which can be reviewed prior to your appointment.
