| What is an MRI and
why is it necessary?
A magnetic resonance imaging test, or MRI, is a diagnostic procedure that uses
a large magnet, radiofrequencies and a computer to produce very precise images
within the body. MRI technology lets the doctors of Cape Radiology Group evaluate
the heart, brain, spine, liver, pancreas, reproductive organs and musculoskeletal
areas, including muscle, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and bone marrow. Because
of the exquisite soft tissue contrast, MRI is particularly helpful in identifying
brain and nervous system disorders and musculoskeletal anatomy is displayed
in fine detail in multiple planes. These detailed images can also assess blood
flow and functional anatomy to help in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety
of medical conditions.
