What is interventional radiology and when is it necessary?
Interventional radiology (IR) is a medical specialty which uses an innovative
integration of clinical and imaging-based diagnosis along with minimally-invasive
therapy. These procedures generally have less risk, less pain and
shorter recovery time compared to open surgery.
Endovascualr and interventional consultants
are physicians who specialize in minimally-invasive, targeted treatments
performed using x-rays, ultrasound, MRI and other diagnostic imaging
to guide tiny instruments (such as catheters) through blood vessels
or through the skin directly to the site of a problem, treating a
variety of medical disorders without surgery.
