What can I expect from the CT?
The technologist will position you on the scanning table. The table will move through a large ring-shaped opening within the CT scanner. The technologist will monitor you and your procedure through a glass window. They will be able to see and communicate with you at all times. During the scanning process, you will hear humming of the equipment and the table will move very slowly as it produces the images. It is very important that you hold still while the scan is being performed, and you may need to hold your breath for certain pictures being taken. Having an IV in your arm may be necessary if you are having a scan that requires the use of a contrast material or dye injection. Please notify your referring physician and the CT technologist of any food or medicine allergies that you may have. The length of time for a CT scan varies from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the type of scan you are having.

Your examination will be interpreted by a radiologist and the report will be sent to your referring physician. You should make arrangements with your physician on how you will receive your results from them (such as follow-up appointment or calling the physician's office).
